If you prick us, do we not bleed? If
you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die?
And if you wrong us, do we not revenge? If we are like you in the
rest, we will resemble you in that.
every "film maker" claims he is a thinker! Well.... DK you have proved, you in fact are...
Henry Ward Beecher a prominent mind, an iconic social reformer and indeed a philanthropist who needled the society with his words... to think that those words can still ignite a thought process so deep is a testament to his greatness!
I am impressed not just with the subject matter but by the fact that someone finally voiced it! Our industry had it coming...
I will not in a 100 years agree that we lack talent... But I will argue that as an inherited trait we INDIANS lack motivation to dig deeper. It just seems easier to take someone else's baby and dress it up for our parade!
As a society we all feel this compulsive need to be "popular". This need over powers our young talents and forces then to follow the path already paved…. Hence leading to the pastiche – same movie with 20 different titles – We need to break out of this mode and give our young talents some much needed encouragement and strength to try “new things!”
Well the older generation is of no help here!!! Almost in all film schools and academies that I have known in our country…. Tutors show their students movies from all around the world which have made an impact. What for? Both the tutors and the students completely lose sight of why this is done!!! It is almost “HIP” to be a foreign film pro. No offence to people but….come on!!! Just knowing the names of 10 award winning movies does not make you a film maker! These movies are meant to inspire you… not turn you into fugitives who commit copywriter infringement!!!
I agree with DK that our industry need a wakeup call and I hope this blog is the first step towards it!
D.k...i would accept to wat ever u have said...nowadays we have been exposed to lot of world movies...but the fact is that most of us(including me)watch it and we directly discuss about adapting it to tamil or wat ever language... if we r asked to think also we just watch a movie n give references from it...which makes us lazy...the idea of watching a movie is lost..
i would say the only solution to it is literature...for example almost 60-70% of the foreign or the holly wood movie are adapted from a novel or short story or from a comic strip... they adapt it & do a good screenplay...but in here most of them don't have the habit of reading books...
i am very sure indian authors n stories are too good n they also deal with different "genre"...only thing is we don make an effort to read it... i don't know what is stopping us from adapting from a book...i would say its always better than ripping it off from some other movie...
